English for Hospitality & Tourism Co-op Certificate
- 24 weeks (360 hours) 5.6 months
- 12 weeks in class 15 hours per week
- 12 weeks of paid co-op work experience
Upon successful completion of the English for Hospitality and Tourism Co-op program, students will have demonstrated the ability to:
- Identify and describe selected aspects of Canadian culture that are related to, and affect, not only the hospitality and tourism industry but the day-to-day interaction of students within a Hospitality and Tourism Educational Program.
- Apply existing and newly acquired interpersonal skills in such a way as to increase the effectiveness, and enhance, the learning experience in a Canadian Educational Institution.
- Describe the history, current state, trends, selected vocabulary, organization, and employment opportunities of the five sectors of travel and tourism.
- Prepare a report on a sector of hospitality and tourism to a pre-assigned set of standards which will include an oral presentation.
- Show an understanding of business skills including researching information, operation of common office equipment, telephone etiquette, and word processing as they would commonly be found in a Canadian business office.
- Identify key geographical regions and cities in North America on a map and describe key features of these areas related to hospitality and tourism.
- Complete an equal number of paid co-op work experience hours in a hospitality and tourism related company.
- Increase conversational English by role playing etc.
