The Tourism Industry

In the tourism industry course you will learn how to describe tourism, study the history of tourism by looking at important events that have shaped it, forecast the future of tourism by looking at potential employment opportunities that exist, you will research the number of people expected to travel and the type of trips they would prefer to take and define government roles in tourism by looking at national organizations, regulations and laws in Canada.

Business Skills

In the business skills course you will learn how to work in a business environment, be introduced to typical business machines such as business telephones, facsimile machines and computers. You will practice methods common to a business office in tourism such as filing, banking and word processing. You will learn to apply telephone etiquette skills preferred by Canadian businesses for day-to-day communication in a role-play environment.

Interpersonal Skills

In this course students will develop interpersonal skills that are used on a daily basis at Canadian Tourism College and can be used at other North American educational institutes. You will learn about daily social and business interactions, learn how to deliver an oral and visual presentation, understand the roles of individuals participating in group discussions through role-play, investigate the etiquette and methods for organizing a social function, learn problem-solving methods, comprehend conflict resolution and gain an understanding of humor used as a method of communicating, handling stress and as entertainment in a Canadian learning environment.

Canadian Cultures

Students will identify the meaning of the word "culture", recognize the individual aspects that make up Canadian culture, explore the beliefs of Canadian people based on their history, customs, traditions and ceremonies. Students will explore the behavior patterns of Canadians as influenced by their general way of life and heritages, explore Canadian ways of life through observation and experience, learn to identify differences between cultures, learn to acknowledge cultural differences by examining the positives and negatives of alternative ways of dealing with life experiences, and to learn to perform day-to-day tasks in ways that are considered common in Canada.
