First Nations Cultural Tourism
- One Day - 5 Hours
British Columbia is known around the world for its incredible scenery, abundant wildlife and unique First Nation's art. Many tourists that visit British Columbia would like to know more about the First Nations people and their culture.
Many tourism professionals working in the industry and students who are learning about tourism are not familiar with the history, lifestyles and cultural diversity of BC's First Nations.
This one day seminar, taught in a First Nations longhouse in North Vancouver, provides the participant with an overview of the history, traditional and contemporary lifestyles and the cultural diversity of the First Nations of BC. Students will learn about common terms associated with First Nations people, identify the number of First Nations Bands in the province, identify some of the traditional dwellings and learn about one of their festive activities: a Pow Wow.
This seminar has been designed and is taught by Gary Johnson, educator and Chief Executive of Sea Wolf Adventures, a BC First Nation's tourism company providing First Nations tours in BC's Squamish Nation Territory. Gary has been teaching this seminar for CTC for over 8 years.
Any individual who is involved in the tourism industry either directly or indirectly would benefit from this one-day seminar. For example, students may be industry professionals, a tour guide, a tour operator, an educator, a meeting planner, a conference organizer a tourism information representative.
Upon successful completion of this seminar, students will receive a certificate of participation from Sea Wolf Adventures and CTC.
