The Canadian Tourism College Travel & Tourism Diploma curriculum has a 5 Star rating from the Canadian Institute of Travel Counsellors providing the highest level of industry validated tourism curriculum in Canada.
Canadian Tourism College is the only International Air Transport Association's (IATA) authorized training centre in western Canada. Students have the unique optional opportunity to dual certify (additional tuition fees apply) by earning IATA's Diploma in Travel & Tourism Foundation, the designation from IATA known as DTTF, and Canadian Tourism College's highly respected Travel & Tourism Diploma.
This travel tourism program is designed for people who want to work with airlines, hotels, travel companies, cruise lines, and a variety of other positions in tourism related businesses, this course provides students with the current knowledge and education that is demanded by today’s travel tourism employers.

Travel Tourism Introduction
This travel tourism course will provide you with thorough knowledge of the travel & tourism industry. This training will include research techniques, business communication & correspondence. Students will gain an understanding of industries in the tourism sector, legalities relating to the travel industry, office administration and documentation, and professional development.
Accommodation
Students learn to define accommodation terminology, identify and describe different types of accommodation, and calculate accommodation costs.
Ground Transportation
Students will gain knowledge of ground transportation products, including rail, automobile, and motorcoach. Students will understand the terminology and be able to identify and describe types of transportation equipment, as well as recognize the key players in the industry. An overview of schedules and itineraries will be covered.
Marine Transportation
Students will gain knowledge of cruise lines and other forms of marine transportation. Terminology, assessing the different types of vessels, interpreting schedules and itineraries, as well as calculate costs. The psychology of selling cruises and cruise geography are also integral elements in this course.
Tours, plus Administration of Client Bookings
This travel tourism course offers students insight into tour products and tour operators. A review of terminology is covered, and students will identify and describe different types of tours, tour destinations as well as the leading companies in the industry.
Airline Industry
An overview of the airline industry introduces students to the history, trends, regulations, terminology, and the alliances with other industry players. Students gain an understanding of the major carriers, code sharing, frequent flyer programs, food service, classes of services, city and airport codes and the 24 hour clock.
Apollo “Live” GDS
Travel tourism students learn Apollo training in a "live" reservation environment. This course is instructor lead and students will become familiar with the automated processes in managing a passenger flight, car, and hotel reservation.
Airline Fare Structures
This travel tourism course covers the principles and foundations of international airfare calculations.
World Destinations
In this course you will cover attractions, culture, history, general facts, capitals, climate, currency, cuisine, airlines and geography. This tourism geography course will provide you with information on how to sell a destination correctly. You will research, discuss, present and discover popular tourist destinations and why travellers wish to visit these places.
Total Client Management
This travel tourism course provides you with information on IATA accounting procedures through their accounting arm, Billing Settlement Plan Canada. Using the procedures in accordance with IATA standards and regulations, and you will analyze the IATA/BSP process. The Airline Industry and Advanced Fare Structures are pre-requisites. Students will gain an understanding of revenue generation, invoicing, insurance, and TRAMS.
Professional Selling Skills
Marketing strategies, selling techniques, and client satisfaction strategies will be taught. This extensive sales and motivation course will provide you with sales skills specific to the travel and tourism industry. It will also add confidence when dealing with clients, passengers and customers while complementing the knowledge attained with the many other related courses in this program.
Career Development
Travel tourism students will receive the skills to get your career going. Students will create an effective resume, learn how individual employers interview, what they require from prospective employees, current employment opportunities and how to access the hidden job market.
SABRE Red Workspace "Live" GDS
The Travel and Tourism students learn this dynamic application of reservation technology using the live SABRE RED suite of products. The Red Workspace offers our students an opportunity to view real time processes for booking airline reservations, researching fares, booking cars and hotels along with a multitude of other facets of the travel industry. In today’s fast paced world of technology it is essential for anyone providing travel services to have a an understanding of the variety of platforms used to access information.
IATA
If you decide to include the optional dual certification (additional textbook fees apply) from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to earn the Diploma in Travel & Tourism Fundamentals (DTTF) you will be able to calculate complex fares based on worldwide applications, advanced airfare principles and structures by using manuals provided by IATA.
Career Days
These special days are designed to assist students in making career choices by visiting various travel tourism employers to help give perspective on the wide range of companies that make up the travel tourism industry and to see how they operate. Guest speakers will provide the student group with the latest trends in the industry plus provide information about industry hiring practices.
Industry inspection tours may include: airports, tour companies, the cruise ship terminal, hotels, resorts, wholesale companies, car rental companies and any other related tourism organization.
Group Travel Design & Marketing
This travel tourism program will guide you through the necessary steps to confidently plan, organize, market, sell and operate a group tour. The major content of the course will cover the research, design, costs, marketing and final preparations for the operation of a tour program. Time will be spent on the selection process when choosing a tour manager for the group as well as ways to manage the tour while it’s in progress.
Lifestyles Tourism
This module is designed to give students an overview of niche markets within the travel and tourism industry, such as honeymoon travel, eco adventure tours, voluntourism, assisting travelers with disabilities, agritours, First Nations cultural tourism, health tours and spas.
Tour Guiding
Canada enjoys a very high profile with both local and international tour groups. You will learn the introductory skills required to become a local tour guide including how to research a tour, deliver tour commentary, VIP procedures and much more. For those that wish to obtain the Local Tourist Guide Certificate, you will be required to take Emergency First Aid and WorldHost Fundamentals certificate seminars available through the College on Saturdays.
Professional Development
Students are encouraged to obtain professional development in the tourism industry by focusing on their particular area of interest. Professional development may include volunteering at industry trade shows or special events, job shadowing or taking training in specialized tourism areas.
Canadian Tourism College is the first and only travel tourism school in BC to be designated as a training institute with Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA). Students may wish to take advantage of this unique opportunity to earn this highly recognized, difficult to obtain CLIA Associate Cruise Program (ACP) Designation. To register requires a small registration fee of $60.00 Canadian dollars per person for students. Travel tourism industry personnel are invited to fill any available seats and are charged an additional fee by CLIA.
Tourism Research Project
This project will require students to use the research skills learned throughout this extensive program. The project could be based on the role of a Tour Planner, Travel Counsellor or Event Coordinator, just to name a few types of occupations. Students gain confidence, have the opportunity to apply newly acquired skills, utilize presentation techniques and create a valuable tool to showcase their skills to potential employers.
Strata - IT Fundamentals
This training will assist you in developing knowledge required working in a technical environment. The Strata program provides knowledge on working within the computer and network environment. Students learn basic fundamentals of PC components, workstation setup, software installation, security risks and prevention, Green IT, preventative maintenance, networking and troubleshooting. These are valued, in-demand skills that employers look for when hiring employees who can “hit the ground running.”
Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS)
This program is the only comprehensive, performance-based certification program approved by Microsoft to validate desktop computer skills using the Microsoft Office programs:

•Microsoft PowerPoint
The Office Specialist program provides computer program literacy, measures proficiency, and identifies opportunities for skills enhancement. Students have the option of writing their MOS exams to earn an Office Specialist certificate that sets them apart from their peers in the competitive job market (additional "reduced" exam fees apply at CTC's IT Academy rates). The certificate is a valuable credential recognized worldwide, as proof that an individual has the desktop computing skills needed to work more productively and efficiently.
Business Communications
A vital component of any technical software program is the application of the new skills. With this mandate, CTC includes a Business Communications module as part of the overall program. Studies include understanding the foundations of business communication, the writing process, speaking and listening skills, report and proposal writing, effective presentation skills and working as a team and conflict resolution.
Study Skills
Student will be introduced to a better understanding of how to study. They will learn the ability to set short-term and long-term goals and to design a plan of study that leads to short-term goals. Students will also be learning strategies and techniques to improve memory retention, and understanding how people learn, note-taking techniques for reading and listening, techniques for building and developing retention of daily lessons, skills in following instructions, search techniques, types of learning and use of feedback, test-taking techniques, and the ability to incorporate constructive criticism into study practice.
Practicum
Travel tourism students will be required to complete 160 hours of hands-on training in a tourism, travel or hospitality-related environment. To qualify for the practicum, students are required to maintain a grade average of 70% or higher and a minimum attendance of 90%.
CITC Recommended
This is a 5 Star program endorsed by the Canadian Institute of Travel Counsellors (CITC) This endorsement indicates to students that Canadian Tourism College’s program is meeting or exceeding the Occupational Standards for Travel Counselling that have been developed in conjunction with the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC) using the emerit™ brand. The additional benefits of completing a travel program at an endorsed facility like Canadian Tourism College are reduced occupational work experience hours and complimentary Knowledge Exam materials. Credentials Included in the Program:
In addition to the Travel & Tourism Business Management Diploma that carries a CITC 5 star endorsement, successful students may earn the First Nations Cultural Tourism Certificate, Assisting Travellers with Disabilities Certificate, and the Group Travel: Design and Marketing Certificate. For those students who decide to buy the optional IATA textbooks and pass the national exams, they may earn the Travel & Tourism Foundation Level Diploma DTTF in addition to CTC's Diploma.
